I am a poor college student. Thankfully there is a company out there called Malt-O-Meal that makes damn good cereal for cheap prices(4 bucks for a 37 ox. bag vs. a 13 ox box for like 2.50). Most off brand foods are not as good as the expensive stuff, but Malt-O-Meal does pretty good. Golden Puffs are the equivalent of Smacks or Golden Crisp..but the mascot is a Kangaroo instead of a frog or a bear. A much needed improvement in my opinion. Now lets get to the cereal. Great taste. Overall Honey is the main flavor, but the smell and initial taste has almost a hint of coffee/mocha, which is a bit different, but i enjoy it. Texture of the cereal is also great. Crispy but without being TOO crunchy and rough on your mouth or some shit like that. Because the cereal is Puffed Wheat it seems likely that it would absorb milk really fast, but Golden Puffs comes with its own bodyguard. The honey on the outside acts like armor to keep soggyness at bay..so it stays pretty crisp for the pretty much the whole bowl. Even once soggyness finally starts to break the front lines, the honey keeps it somewhat crisp, so during the initial bite you have some crunch..followed by a somewhat soggy middle. It sounds weird but the texture is really different and cool and i love the last few bites when it gets like this. So you drink the milk(which by the way is extra sweet and honey-ey tasting) and you wash your bowl, and your cereal experience is done right? WRONG. One weird thing about Golden Puffs is that the next time you take a piss..it will have a honey smell to it. At least for me. And I think this rules. I have some friends who hate this cereal because of this fact. It reminds me of how good my breakfast was, and makes me want another bowl as soon as possible.
